Intrax Land Geotechnical Groundwater Wells for Environmental Monitoring

At Intrax Engineering, we pride ourselves on our ability to deliver comprehensive solutions for complex projects. Recently, we had the opportunity to showcase our expertise in site investigation and coordination for a project spanning across 5 hectares in Melbourne. This case study highlights our involvement in the field program, which included a range of services and meticulous coordination efforts.

Scope of Work

The scope of work for this project was extensive, covering service locations across a vast area. Our team played a crucial role in coordinating the pre-site locating of boreholes, ensuring that concrete coring or cutting was completed prior to the drilling program. The drilling program itself encompassed approximately 100 boreholes, with depths ranging from 2 metres to 18 metres. This involved a variety of techniques, including shallow auger drilling, wash bore and HQ coring, and down hole hammer drilling.

Location

The project was located in Melbourne.

Description of Services Provided across our Plant

Trailer Mount Drill rig and Vermeer: We utilised shallow auger drilling to access the upper layers of the site, providing valuable insights into the soil composition and structure. We also utilised push tubing to obtain 1,5m long undisturbed samples in Geoporbe sleeves for environmental sampling.

Hanjin DB8: For deeper exploration, we employed wash bore and HQ coring techniques, allowing us to obtain high-quality core samples for analysis.

Hanjin DB8: Down Hole Hammer Drilling: Our expertise in down hole hammer drilling proved essential for reaching greater depths efficiently and accurately, particularly for the installation of deeper groundwater wells.

8 tonner excavator: Test pitting was conducted to further assess soil conditions and gather additional data to inform the project.

Management of 3rd Party Contractors

In addition to our core services, we managed third-party contractors to ensure seamless project execution:

Service Locators: We coordinated with service locators to accurately map out underground utilities, mitigating the risk of damage during operations.

Concrete Cutters: Concrete cutting was necessary for accessing certain areas of the site, and our management of concrete cutters ensured timely and precise execution.

Environmental Consultant: Due to the site’s extensive environmental risks, we collaborated with an environmental consultant to address any potential impacts and ensure compliance with regulations.

Conclusion

Through effective coordination, utilisation of advanced drilling techniques, and collaboration with third-party experts, Intrax Geotechnical Team delivered another comprehensive site investigation program in Melbourne. Our commitment to quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction remains unwavering, positioning us as a trusted partner for projects of any scale and complexity.
